WatchLog ("we", "our", or "the app") is built and operated by Virstack. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the WatchLog mobile app, why we collect it, and what choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible and never sell your data.
1. Who we are
WatchLog is published by Virstack. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at info@virstack.com.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide
- Account details: name and email address when you sign up or log in.
- Profile settings: display name, bio, genre and language preferences — used to personalise recommendations.
- Profile photo: an optional avatar image you select from your device's photo library.
- Watchlist data: the movies and TV shows you add, their status, ratings, and written reviews.
- Episode progress: which seasons and episodes you have marked as watched, with timestamps.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- App usage logs: timestamps of app opens stored locally to power viewing statistics and history charts.
- Device information: basic technical details (OS version, app version, device language) sent with API requests for diagnostics.
- Error diagnostics: crash reports and performance data collected by Sentry to help us identify and fix issues.
3. Permissions we request
4. How we use your information
- To create and authenticate your account and keep you signed in.
- To store and sync your watchlist, episode progress, ratings, and profile settings.
- To generate personalised show and movie recommendations based on your genre and language preferences.
- To display your watch history and viewing statistics within the app.
- To diagnose crashes and improve the app's reliability via Sentry.
- To comply with legal obligations.
5. Data we do not collect
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not access your contacts or calendar.
- We do not access your microphone or record audio.
- We do not share your personal data with TMDB or any other content provider.
6. Where your data lives
Most of your data — watchlist entries, episode progress, ratings, and viewing logs — is stored locally on your device in an encrypted SQLite database. A copy of your account profile and watchlist may be synced to our backend so you can recover your data after reinstalling or signing in on another device. Backend data is transmitted over HTTPS and protected with industry-standard access controls.
7. TMDB integration
WatchLog uses The Movie Database (TMDB) API to provide movie and TV show metadata, posters, cast information, and episode data. We send search queries and show identifiers to TMDB's servers to fetch this metadata. We do not share your personal data (name, email, or watchlist) with TMDB. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
8. Third-party services
- The Movie Database (TMDB) — We send search queries and show/movie identifiers to TMDB's servers to fetch metadata, posters, and episode data. Your personal data is never shared with TMDB.
- Sentry — Receives crash reports and performance traces to help us diagnose issues. Reports include device details and app state at the time of the error, but no watchlist content or account credentials. Privacy policy.
9. Data retention & deletion
We keep your account and synced data while your account is active. You may:
- Delete individual watchlist entries from inside the app.
- Reset all local data via Profile → Reset data.
- Request full account deletion by emailing info@virstack.com. We will delete your server-side data within 30 days.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at info@virstack.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
11. Children's privacy
WatchLog is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. Security
We use industry-standard measures — TLS in transit, bcrypt-hashed credentials, and access controls on our backend — to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, so we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and keep your device protected.
13. International transfers
Your data may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence. By using WatchLog you consent to this transfer, which is performed under appropriate safeguards.
14. Changes & contact
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the Last updated date at the top and, if changes are material, notify you in-app. Continued use of WatchLog after a change indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
